Welcome to our new President

Newly elected at this year’s AGM were President Piper Ball-de Mejia, who promises to encourage a return to ‘work in progress’ as the focus of monthly meetings of Tauranga Writers. Piper is involved at present with The Great New Zealand Book Race and with the Young Writers website she set up recently.  One of Piper’s first tasks will be to set up a working party to organise the inaugural Young Writers Short Story Competition as an annual event. Piper brings to the position of president two essential qualities – a talent for imposing order on an unruly mob and an insistence that benevolent despotism is a managerial norm.

She will be ably assisted by Sarah Anderson as Secretary, bringing youth and energy to this unpopular role. Sarah who is presently training at Tauranga Hospital, creates historical fiction in tandem with a writing partner! Their present opus is set in ancient Greece. And Ian Clarke has agreed (with no coercion except compliments on his character and financial acumen) to continue as Treasurer for a third term,  for which we are duly and truly appreciative. Gun Caundle remains as webmaster and master-commander of the (local) seas and Jenny Argante continues to act as our information resource and editor of Update.

Thanks were unanimously expressed to outgoing President Suzanne Singleton, who steered us through a year of change and challenge, and to all our other volunteers who worked hard through 2011 to keep us going and growing.

You can read the Minutes of Tauranga Writers AGM and reports 2012 in the members area.
