Every third Sunday 2-4pm @ Greerton Library
A monthly presentation or workshop conducted by an award-winning local writer focusing on
a topic relating to creative writing or being an indie author. General public $10; Tauranga
Writers financial members $5. Sessions involve a practical component and Q&A.

Sunday 16 February – Snowflake Method
SHARON MANSSEN, Tauranga Writers’ president, kicks off the year with a workshop on the snowflake method for plotting your novel. Perfect for launching yourself into that new year writing project, this workshop offers practical tips for not writing yourself into a corner.
Sunday 15 March – Self Editing
CHAD DICK, editor, saves you time and editing costs with this hands-on tutorial in self-editing. Bring some writing you’d like to sharpen up for this crash course in writing lean. Come prepared to murder your darlings.
Sunday 19 April – Stealing Voices

PIPER MEJIA shares how a simple conversation made her rethink how being a wide reader and analysing the writing styles of popular authors, could help craft her own style of writing and find her own voice.

ROASLIE LIDDLE, journalist for the Weekend Sun and local personality, talks about her journey into writing, community building, and what it takes to create engaging local news articles.
Sunday 21 June – Being a writer in NZ
MANDY HAGER, New Zealand Society of Authors President, on being a writer in NZ. Mandy discusses the challenges and opportunities facing the literary arts in New Zealand.

Sunday 19 July – Branding and marketing your book
TRUDI JAYE of the SPA (Self-Publishing Author) group joins us with an up-to-the-minute presentation on branding and marketing your book. If you’re thinking of self-publishing, or you’re interested in what’s required behind the scenes to successfully market a book project, then come along for this highly informative talk from one of New Zealand’s most successful writers.
Sunday 16 August – On with the Show
LEE MURRAY runs a workshop demystifying the principles of show-not-tell. Part presentation, part practice, Lee offers tips for mastering this must-have tool for fiction writers.
Sunday 20 September – Screenwriting
Do you have a story everyone says would make a good film? Are you looking for techniques to sharpen your prose? Perhaps you’d like to be the next Taika Waititi? Screenwriter and awarding winning author JEAN GILBERT returns to our Sunday sessions with this information-packed presentation on writing for the screen.
Sunday 18 October – Developing character
LIZZIE TREMAYNE: Developing character. Award-winning historical romance writer Lizzie Tremayne joins us with a comprehensive workshop for developing complex and believable characters.
Sunday 15 November – Launching a Book (FREE)
PIPER MEJIA, Life Member and Former President of Tauranga Writers, literary advocate and a champion for NZ youth writers, tells us of her lifelong journey into writing, culminating in the November publication of her debut collection The Better Sister & Other Stories.
